She's been officially affianced for all of about 24 hours, and
already the fashion world is clamoring to give Kate Middleton its two
cents. Her style has been duly analyzed; her aesthetic similarity to
Diana, the late Princess of Wales, has been considered; and, at last
night's premiere of Love and Other Drugs, no less an arbiter than
Valentino himself weighed in on her haircut. "She has to do
something with this long hair because that is very important," the
retired designer (left, with Anne Hathaway, in Valentino Couture)
opined. "To be a future queen, she can't keep her hair this
long." For more from the Valentino-sponsored premiere, check out
our full coverage here.

Marrakech is what it is now—including home of the annual Marrakech
International Film Festival, which has been unfurling the red carpet
this past week for the likes of Catherine Deneuve, Marion Cotillard,
and Eva Mendes—thanks in part to Yves Saint Laurent. And to a great
extent, the iconic designer's legacy is what it is thanks to
Marrakech. Want proof? First, go to Marrakech. Then see Yves Saint
Laurent and Morocco, an exhibition that opened in late November and is
up at the city's Jardin Majorelle until March 18.

Saint Laurent was born in Oran, Algeria, in 1936, but the richness and
exoticism of North Africa really hit him 30 years later, when he first
came to Marrakech. Inspired by the fluid lines of caftans and
djellabas, Saint Laurent embellished traditional Moroccan garments and
tucked them into new silhouettes. He reoriented Middle Eastern ideas
of leisure and formality for the liberated, exploratory female of the
late sixties and seventies, the era of the "saharienne." In short,
he didn't live in Marrakech the way most French second-homers do.

More than anything, though, Saint Laurent learned about color in
Morocco. The 44 designs at the Majorelle (once the garden home of
Saint Laurent and his partner, Pierre Bergé, now a museum and private
park overseen by their foundation) come from the same exuberant
palette as the region's flora and precious stones. The show's
first exhibit is a red faille cape from 1989 with bougainvillea
embroidery—one case where Saint Laurent literally put his backyard
into his clothing.

A Day In The Life Of: Aminata Niaria, Rising Star Model: style ...

A new Post "A Day In The Life Of: Aminata Niaria, Rising Star Model: style ..." was written on the December 30, 2010 at 10:57 pm on "Textile Global - Textile and Fashion News".

October 2, 2009  7:33 pm

[1]It was Alber Elbaz who discovered Aminata Niaria almost three
years ago. Now, the Senegalese beauty is something of a Paris
darling. We asked her to chronicle her packed day of racing around
to castings, shows, and, of course, parties. Here's what Aminata
did yesterday.

*Thursday, October 1*

*8:40 a.m.* I'm en route to my first show, Hiroko Koshino. I have a
nice, brisk walk there to wake me up!

*9 a.m.* I arrive at the Carrousel du Louvre. I am lucky enough to get
a mani-pedi and a massage backstage before the show. Great start to
the day!

[2]

*10:30 a.m.* I go into hair and makeup, which I love. Phophie Mathias
is doing my makeup. Very cool.

*1:05 p.m.* The show is up! I have to run off to my fitting at
Véronique Leroy at 2 p.m.

*1:30 p.m.* I arrive a half hour ahead of my scheduled fitting, hoping
they can take me early so I can get everything done today. Fingers
crossed I won't have to wait…

*3:25 p.m.* Arrive for my Stella McCartney casting with James Scully,
who is working on the show. It took forever to get here! You can
definitely tell it's fashion week in Paris. There's so much
traffic, people, and action!

*4 p.m.* Out of the casting with a lot of missed calls from IMG!
I've got to run run run to Rick Owens!

[3]

*4:20 p.m.* Arrive at Les Beaux-Arts de Paris and head straight into
show rehearsal. Then on to makeup, which is a really clean and sharp
look. I love it and will get some tips on how to do it myself.

*5:30 p.m.* Retouching and some backstage photos. I see Rick Owens and
we have a photo together! His work is very strong and captivating—I
just love it.

*6:10 p.m.* The show has just finished a bit late and I'm running
behind for the next. I'm off to A.F. Vandevorst. Got to run to the
Musée de l'Homme!

*8 p.m.* Leaving A.F. Vandervorst for a quick fitting at Issey Miyake.

*10 p.m.* I run home for a quick change so I can stop by the Vogue
Covers 1920-2009 soirée at the Hôtel de Crillon. I wear a BCBG Max
Azria dress and grab a Swarovski clutch.

[4]

*10:30 p.m.* Arrive at the party fashionably late. I am very excited
to speak with some of the people who I meet briefly in
castings—Carine Roitfeld, Patti Wilson. There are so many wonderful
personalities here. Unfortunately I can't stay long. I have a 7 a.m.
call time for Issey Miyake.

*11:10 p.m.* Turning the lights out. My day is finished. Off to get
some beauty sleep for tomorrow is a new day! Au revoir!

Whimsical design by Kronkron

A new Post "Whimsical design by Kronkron" was written on the December 30, 2010 at 10:50 pm on "Textile Global - Textile and Fashion News".

I love the colorful, cheerful, whimsical aesthetic of *Kron by
KronKron* shoes. They look like coming right out of the Wonderland
after being on a Galapagos adventure and on an African safari. The
thick soles and heels make them super-comfy while the use of fine
suede, patent leather and velvet put the *Kron* shoes in the luxury
range. Tinted in bold color blocks in mix with white, black and gray,
decorated with bows, frills and tassels this could sound a little too
much but they can be a true staple in an imaginative wardrobe.

[1]*Kron by Kronkron shoes ss2010*

*Kron* shoes are designed by the owners and founders of *KronKron*,
*Hugrún Árnadóttir* (a fashion designer graduated from Studio
Berçot in Paris) and *Magni Þorsteinsson* (who previously worked as
a hairstylist). They have been in the shoe business since year 2000
when they launched their first store and by 2004 they developed
*KronKron*, a fashion-forward store focusing on up-and-coming
designers as well as innovative leading brands in the industry.

The collaboration with young creative minds continues with the Kron by
KronKron lookbook photographed by London based *Saga Sig* and

A new Post "CQ Watch: Willow Smith's photo shoot for Times of London" was written on the December 30, 2010 at 10:23 pm on "Textile Global - Textile and Fashion News".

Is it too soon to start dubbing little *Willow Smith* the next Lady
Gaga? A mini Gaga perhaps? With her popularity growing, 10-year-old
Smith was invited to pose for the London Sunday Times in a
yet-to-be-published photo shoot shot by *Sheryl Nields* and styled by
*Brea Stinson* in LA. Of course there is plenty of whipping hair back
and forth, as well as an array of crazy costumes. Check out the

Who wore a suit better? AnnaLynne McCord or Leighton Meester

A new Post "Who wore a suit better? AnnaLynne McCord or Leighton Meester" was written on the December 30, 2010 at 10:21 pm on "Textile Global - Textile and Fashion News".

We didn't quite picture ourselves falling for the 'lady suit', but
after seeing a flurry of celebrities try out a shirt and tie, we've
been drawn to this surprisingly sexy look.

AnnaLynne McCord and Leighton Meester are two perfect examples of
different ways to try this masculine ensemble, showing you needn't
flash flesh to turn heads.

90210's AnnaLynne let her blonde locks loose as she sported some
skinny trousers, a sharp shirt, and a tie with a pair of heels.

And Gossip Girl's Leighton loosened up wearing a loose blazer and
shirt with peg leg trousers.

These are two pretty contrasting takes on this trend, but which of the
ladies looks better?

Designers Reveal Their New Year's Resolutions

A new Post "Designers Reveal Their New Year's Resolutions" was written on the December 30, 2010 at 10:19 pm on "Textile Global - Textile and Fashion News".

A lot of people will poo-poo the idea of *New Year's resolutions*,
saying we should be trying to better ourselves all year long, not just
at the turn of a calendar. But we disagree...sort of. Come January 1,
there's no better time to re-tool and revisit all the big goals,
challenges, and dreams you've had simmering on the back burner. So, to
kick-start our own self-improvement mission, we asked a few of our
designer friends to pipe in about their New Year's to-do's to offer up
a little inspiration. Here's to making good on the best of 'em!
*Jason Wu*, Designer Jason Wu
"Next year—and every year—I'd really just like to spend more time
with my friends and indulge in healthier food."

*Chris Benz*, Designer
"My resolution is to sleep less but still be more productive!"

*Susien Chong*, Co-Designer, Lover
"Lover turns 10 in 2011, so we feel like it's about time we master the
work-life balance and escape the never-ending Things To Do
list...fingers crossed."

*Max Osterweis & Erin Beatty*, Co-Designers, SUNO
"Mine's super dorky! I want to become certified to teach Gyrotonics!
You might have to google that..."—Erin
Max: "Mine is not quite as ambitious. I'd really just like to make
time to start running again...it's the little things."—Max

Yay! Rodarte Comes To Pacific Design Center In 2011

A new Post "Yay! Rodarte Comes To Pacific Design Center In 2011" was written on the December 30, 2010 at 10:14 pm on "Textile Global - Textile and Fashion News".

DYING! Get your 2011 calendars out because this a show not to be
missed. Rodarte will have an exhibition at the Pacific Design Center
starting in March 2011, examining the inspirations, such as the
California landscape and the aesthetics of film. Says the PDC,
"Examining multiplicity, this exhibition takes shape as a conceptual
environment envisioned by the designers," which is all well and good,
but we're more excited about getting up close and personal with the
sculptural tutus from Black Swan.

George At Asda Become New Title Sponser For Graduate Fashion Week 2011

A new Post "George At Asda Become New Title Sponser For Graduate Fashion Week 2011" was written on the December 30, 2010 at 10:12 pm on "Textile Global - Textile and Fashion News".

1 week, 6 days ago

The Trend Boutique were glad to hear that Graduate Fashion Week will
be up and running next year thanks to the announcement that George at
Asda will now be the title sponsor for the event next June.
The announcement comes as Graduate Fashion Week prepares to celebrate
its 20th anniversary and George celebrates its 21st birthday.
Fiona Lambert, Brand Director at George, who has been a member of the
GFW Mentoring Panel for the past 2 years, commented "Despite the
tough economy, we felt we should pull out all the stops to come
forward and support our young graduates.   These students are the
emerging designers of tomorrow and I am delighted that we are able to
support their future careers, and that they will still able to
showcase their collections in London next June."

Rebecca Thomson, Graduate Fashion Week 2010
She goes on to say, "George has always been passionate about fashion,
but we are also passionate about educating young talent about the
incredibly diverse array of career opportunities that exist in this
fantastic industry.  Not everyone can be a designer – but if you
are fashion savvy and industry aware, you could make a brilliant
buyer, merchandiser or marketeer.  There are so many routes in, and
so many career paths – with lots of opportunities outside of London,
throughout the UK.  We also want to open the minds of students  to
consider the possibilities of working for big brands like George,
particularly in this difficult climate.  The experience and knowledge
you can obtain is invaluable."
June Barker Managing Director at GFW said "In the current economic
climate, it has been an extremely challenging time for GFW to secure a
new title sponsor, and we are delighted that George at Asda has come
to our rescue.  We have enjoyed 10 fantastic years with high street
sponsors River Island and Top Shop and are really looking forward to
working with George in the coming months to deliver another exciting
event!"

Spring/Summer 2011 key fashion themes from Printsource&Promostyl

A new Post "Spring/Summer 2011 key fashion themes from Printsource&Promostyl" was written on the December 30, 2010 at 10:09 pm on "Textile Global - Textile and Fashion News".

The *Style Guide* report published in January 2010, created by
*Promostyl* and presented at *Printsource* show, emphasize four key
trends for the Spring/Summer 2011 fashion season (including women's,
men's, kids' apparel market)

Spring/Summer 2011 theme *Patchwork* - "The Fifties injects a spirit
of fun and exuberance in this theme created by free associations,
eclectic assortments and cheery accumulations. Textiles take on a
whimsical play with textures and structures for an arty and poetic
feel. Prints are created with a bustling medley of textures,
renderings and scales in a refreshing artistic and polychromatic
vein. The color palette is a mix of matte gouache tones with vitamin
accents and cozy neutrals."

Spring/Summer 2011 theme *Transform* - "The quest for a new elegance
pairs science with sensuality for a theme that is tactile but strange.
Fabrics focus on experimentations with yarns and new textures to
create a modern minimalist style. Prints are inspired by the world of
living patterns like bacteria, animal skins and X-Ray flowers. The
color palette is made up of synthetic natural shades, chlorophyll
greens and mutant skin tones."

[1]*Patchwork* [2]*Transform*

Spring/Summer 2011 theme *Alternaive*: "A post hippie romantic theme
inspired by the Seventies and a handmade spirit with a dark undertone.
A focus on basic high summer fabrics like pure cotton, plain to color
wovens and stonewashed, bleached denims. Print focus on bucolic
motifs, photography landscapes, botanical and insect plates that are
treated in a naive romantic vein with a strange edge. The color range
is made up of fresh clean pastels that are offset by a pop of pink and
a somber brown."

Spring/Summer 2011 theme *Archeolab*: "A theme that fuses nature with
the high tech drawing inspiration from the energy of the Sun and the
Moon. Fabrics express a neo-primitive spirit with worn oxidized crepe
surfaces and eroded weave textures. The color range is made up of
intense pigment tones moderated with terracotta shades and deep
nocturnal darks."

A Lady in Red 2010 version

A new Post "A Lady in Red 2010 version" was written on the December 30, 2010 at 10:08 pm on "Textile Global - Textile and Fashion News".

We've seen quite a lot of spectacular fire red dresses on the red
carpet in these summer months. Certainly the red color has always been
present at glamorous event but how is that it's so classy and
fashionable all at once?

[1]

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace, Jessica Alba in Valentino Couture,
Jessica Biel in Giambattista Valli, Salma Hayek in Gucci and Megan Fox
in Armani Prive

*Lipstick red* is a hot color for cocktail and evening dressing this
fall and these ladies are ahead of the pack. Fall 2010 collections
(and even some of the pre-fall) have displayed a variety of graceful
dresses in the most dazzling color of the season.

What is great about this color is that it goes great with every age
and the diversity of designs in cut and style proves it. There's
plenty to choose between retro chic dresses, draped column gowns or
short and ruffled frocks for the stylish teens.

[2]

Wear your red dress this fall with black suede pumps for a classic
appearance or with red platforms for a tone-on-tone look, the fall
2010 take on color trends. Tough looking ankle boots are a match for
the rock-chic persona.

What to wear before fall

A new Post "What to wear before fall" was written on the December 30, 2010 at 10:08 pm on "Textile Global - Textile and Fashion News".

What is your in-between-seasons favorite wardrobe pieces? The ones
that go perfectly with the last days of summer yet "stating" the
upcoming fall's trends? Here are some sartorial ideas gathered from
the pre-fall 2010 collections.

Floral print goes beyond summer days only now chose rich, autumn
colors on deep colored background. A dress (a shirt or even a coat) in
*dark florals* is a great way to end August and start the fall season.

[1]*dark floral prints*

A color combo loved by the French and avoid by rest of the nations (he
he...kidding) is the infamous *black and blue* mix; I really don't
know why it had such a reputation until the pre-fall 2010 collection
gave it a go. From cerulean to navy, mix your blue clothes with black
or charcoal gray for a modern take.

[2]*black&blue color combination*

A little luxury never hurt anyone, I even hear is good for the morale
too, so wrap yourself in *golden clothes* to start the fall in
unashamed opulence. The cocktail golden dress is a good option but
don't hesitate to wear sparkling separates for the day, also.

[3]*golden clothes*

Now it's the perfect time and weather to wear a full circle *pleated
skirt* or a *pleated dress* in fall colors, prints and patterns, not
only because the school year is about to begin for some but because
such a fashionable lady-like garment is a must-have in your fall
wardrobe.

[4]*pleated circle skirts*

*The cropped jacket* is back in style, only now, along with the "60s"
tailored swing jackets, there's also short lady-like blazers and
little leather bomber jackets that skim the waist line.

[5]*short jackets*

*Military chic* is one of this year's main fashion trend but it is
still too warm for tweed and other heavy fabrics so at the end of the
summer gamble on silky, soft military inspired blouses, dresses,
trenches and tapered trousers in light browns, greens and even salmon
pink.

Stylish City: vintage denim, summer leather and 70s style

A new Post "Stylish City: vintage denim, summer leather and 70s style" was written on the December 30, 2010 at 10:08 pm on "Textile Global - Textile and Fashion News".

The summer of 2010 was a showcase of retro looks  and saw the return
of minimal chic and feminine elegance.

Faded, bleached denim was one of the biggest trends this summer and
not only in the practical form of denim shorts but also jackets,
shirts and dresses. Looks so fresh when paired with romantic ruffles
and simple hairstyle.

[1]

Summer leather: vintage, distressed, shiny, studded, colored, supple
leather tailored as vests, shorts, skirts and not only was also a
wardrobe staple for summer 2010.

[2]

Minimal chic: not a trend by itself but the return of understated
elegance for summer in the  style of a feminine blouse paired with
tailored shorts/trousers in neutral colors was a fresh breeze among
the busy clothes of the season.

[3]

Stylish pjs: it looks like they are here to stay, ever since Stella
McCartney introduced them to the fashion world back in 2008, breezy
harem pants, wide leg shorts and overalls in floral and paisley print
are just a great option for hot summer days.

[4]

I love the 70s vibe coming from these stylish girls which is quite
easy to get with a pair of flared trousers or an A-line skirt, a
puffed sleeve or rolled sleeve shirt, platforms, a single strap
structured handbag and middle part hairstyles.

[5]

A big thanks to the best street style blogs out there especially
*Caroline's Mode* that started with pictures of Stockholm street
fashion and became a style guide of the most fashionable cities, along
with *Face Hunter*, *Garance Dore* and *The Sartorialist*.

Other pictures belong to *Stylites* (Beijing), *Style Arena* (Tokyo),

Berlin spring/summer 2011 top collections

A new Post "Berlin spring/summer 2011 top collections" was written on the December 30, 2010 at 10:07 pm on "Textile Global - Textile and Fashion News".

*Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Berlin* *spring/summer 2011* (7-10 July
2010) gathers top German fashion brands and designers to showcase
their most recent collections.

*Mongrels In Common* is a young label founded in 2006 by designers
Livia Ximénez-Carrillo and Christine Pluess who met at Esmod School
of Design in Berlin. The brand's name is inspired by their both
multicultural backgrounds. Mongrels In Common's spring/summer 2011
collection displays a calm color palette of blue, beige, cream, yellow
and pastel floral prints; soft fabrics cut into relaxed tailoring with
pleat details; a focus on the waist that creates the ideal hourglass
shape.

[1]*Mongrels In Common spring/summer 2011*

*Schumacher*, a brand that "combines artisan couture with a modern
lifestyle", was founded by Dorothee Schumacher with the goal of
designing favorite pieces for sophisticated wardrobes. Its
spring/summer 2011 collection mixes contrasting styles and fabrics
(leather, organza, silk, cashmere) into a modern and comfortable look.
Notable are the graphic details, large pleats, short hems and straight
square cuts. As for the colors used, pink, purple and burgundy mix
with neutrals and metallic party pieces.

[2]*Schumacher spring/summer 2011*

The Berlin based label *Kaviar Gauche* founded by two Esmod graduates
Alexandra Fischer-Roehler and Johanna Kühl was launched in 2003. The
name was inspired by the French jet-setters who liked to flirt with
the revolutionary ideas of the '68, the so-called "gauche
caviar". With the desire of creating feminine, avantgarde clothes
and accessories they managed worldwide selling, red-carpet exposure,
collaborations with Swarovski and signing Britain's newest super
model, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley as the new ambassador for the brand.

Kaviar Gauche spring/summer 2011 collection is definitely more
romantic and less avantgarde, influenced by their newest bridal
couture line, launched in 2009. On display are sheer silky fabrics,
draping, ruching and fabric flowers, easy, flowing cuts especially
some very elegant trousers. The light color palette includes ivory
white, pale grey, pastel blue, lilac, mint green and yellow.

[3]*Kaviar Gauche spring/summer 2011*

The up-and-coming superstar is *Dawid Tomaszewski* who started his
namesake label in 2009 and already won the Premium Young Designers
Award in January 2010. He is inspired by art and architecture in his
beautiful extravagant designs using only high-quality fabrics. With a
distinctive mix of purism and glamour of the lost golden eras Dawid
Tomaszewski is defining a new couture, giving the modern woman the
chance to express her desire for luxury.

[4]*Dawid Tomaszewski spring/summer 2011*

My top 5 *Berlin Fashion Week* collections includes also the label
developed as an interdisciplinary project of the University of Applied
Sciences HTW Berlin in 2003, *30paarhaende*. Working every season are
30 students who are currently in their sixth term of the fashion
design course, under the direction of Professor Uwe Janssen.

The inclination for experimental design is expected but the clear
lines and functionality of traditional German aesthetic are always at
the core of this sophisticated label. And looking at the spring 2011
collection I'd say the future of German fashion is in great hands.
Modern looking clothes you can breathe in, with streamlined yet
relaxed tailoring and fashion-forward details such as cut-outs and
asymmetric lines, balanced by neutral shades: navy, brown, gray, and
beige.

Keep your shoulders strong!

A new Post "Keep your shoulders strong!" was written on the December 30, 2010 at 10:06 pm on "Textile Global - Textile and Fashion News".

The bold shoulder was a quite shocking trend when it reappeared on the
fashion scene two seasons ago with Balmain jackets, Balenciaga tops
and Givenchy couture. Not many dared to try it as the rule was you
have to be as fierce as this new style.

[1]

Anyway the news is this trend is going to stay for 2010 and, happily
for me, it will channel more bohemian, romantic Belle Epoque (with
sheer and lace fabrics) or the refined late 30s-early 40s era and less
tough-looking 80s.

Expect to see strong shoulders continued with puffy, drapey, tapered
sleeves on just about every top from delicate blouses, cocktail
dresses to blazers, trenches and even cardigans (see Marc by Marc
Jacobs).

[2]

Although classic neutrals, metallics and delicate blush tones dominate
this particular voluminous cut and do look classier I can't help
drooling over the spring 2010 denim blue YSL dress.

What I love about the style is its ability of defining the silhouette;
a strong shoulder top thins down the waist and balances a heavy
bottom; shows also an ideal hourglass figure paired up with the modern
tulip skirt or with the slick carrot trouser.

[3]

For petites like me a bold shoulder piece can be too overwhelming so a
more subtle cut is mandatory. And also high-heels! This post was in
fact inspired by a *Urban Outfitters* newsletter announcing me of a
new mini collection arrival with highlights from Silence & Noise,
Sparkle & Fade and Urban Renewal labels.

Fairy tales and glamorous decadence at 2010's Golden Globes

A new Post "Fairy tales and glamorous decadence at 2010's Golden Globes" was written on the December 30, 2010 at 10:06 pm on "Textile Global - Textile and Fashion News".

Awards shows that take place at the year's debut are the best
preview of the upcoming spring season's top trends. *Golden Globes*
is my favorite award event (next to the Oscars, of course) and this
year it was such a visual treat. Amazing, unique looks compensated for
those several disappointing winning results (for me, anyway). So here
are my favorite looks:

[1]

Emily Blunt in Dolce&Gabbana, Maggie Gyllenhaal in RM by Roland Mouret
and Diane Kruger in Christian Lacroix HC
Pink shades - from subtle champagne hue to peach and cerise -
blossomed among the "sea" of black outfits, illuminating a bleak,
rainy day. Delicate pastel and blush tones made appearance in forms of
flowing, fairy-like gowns with cascading ruffles or classical mermaid
cut designs with corset top or shoulder details. I loved the ballerina
style of Chloë Sevigny's dress.

[2]

Anna Kendrick, in Marchesa, Chloë Sevigny, in Valentino and Heidi
Klum, in Roberto Cavalli

Metallics are still a good choice for evening gowns in style of
sparkling gold and silver sequins/beads/crystals embroidery and
appliqué. Dark metallics like the dazzling pewter beaded dress on
Olivia Wilde are becoming a strong trend.

[3]

Anna Paquin, in Stella McCartney, Toni Collette, in Elie Saab,
Jennifer Garner, in Atelier Versace and Olivia Wilde, in Gucci

Ethereal gowns were rivaled by decadent-glamorous outfits: bias cut
column dresses with plunging V neck or cowl cleavage,
lingerie-inspired lace and sultry jewel colors.

[4]

Rose Byrne, in Lanvin, Ginnifer Goodwin, in Vionnet, Jane Krakowski,
in J. Mendel, Marion Cotillard, in Christian Dior and Cameron Diaz, in
Alexander McQueen

Is dark navy the "new black"? It should take its place on the
formal attire cards as it looks universally classy. Evidently, refined
cuts such as a one-shoulder silk column or a strapless mermaid lace
dress preserve the sophistication factor. Just look at these three
leading ladies.

[5]

Carey Mulligan, in Nina Ricci, Reese Witherspoon, in Armani Prive and
Kate Winslet, in Yves Saint Laurent

And, speaking of black, here is how you "rock" this neutral so
you, glamorous Hollywood diva, don't look like one of the staff: a
body-conscious gown with lace/sheer cut-outs or dark shimmer and
jaw-dropping cleavage. Et voilà!

[6]

Penelope Cruz, in Giorgio Armani, Halle Berry in Kaufman Franco and
Heather Graham, in Elie Saab

Subtle elegance and lovely prints at the Oscars 2010

A new Post "Subtle elegance and lovely prints at the Oscars 2010" was written on the December 30, 2010 at 10:06 pm on "Textile Global - Textile and Fashion News".

Oscar 2010 red-carpet parade gives a lead for the spring season event
dressing. The newest neutrals: nude shades (soft hues of pink and
beige) will show everywhere in formal/cocktail/party occasions.

Versatile silver gray or warm shades of taupe make transition from
sporty casual to indisputable elegance. Dazzling looks are still a
strong option for party wear; the iconic LBD makes way for the
impeccable little white dress while lace brings a retro romantic vibe.

Maggie Gyllenhaal in Dries van Noten and Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab

But the loveliest trend of spring 2010 must be the floral print in its
newest painterly form: large flower prints with blended/ faded
contours in rich colors or soft pastels. A body conscious mini dress,
a bohemian gown or a silky coat in the updated floral print fit
perfectly into your spring wardrobe

[1]

Nude shades are everywhere this year from shoes to bags to nail polish
and all styles of clothing. Soft shades of pink and beige that go
together with draping and frills or sheer lace are perfect mediums for
a romantic look, polished or lingerie-inspired.

[2]

Anna Kendrick in Elie Saab Couture, Demi Moore in Atelier Versace,
Diane Kruger in Chanel Haute Couture and Miley Cyrus in Jenny Packham

Nude-colored cocktail attire, meaning even a pair of tailored trousers
matched with a sheer blouse, seems to be a must-wear for spring 2010.

[3]

Among the most inspirational appearances on the red carpet were the
"grey ladies" swirling around in their diaphanous silvery gowns.

[4]

Cameron Diaz in Oscar de la Renta, Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka and
Elizabeth Banks in Versace

Easy to wear, light shades of grey and warm hues of greige make a
graceful step forward from sporty chic/casual to downright classy. Of
course the quality of fabric & cut and the innovation of detail make
the difference; hence, the conclusion: the newest shades of grey are a
great choice for event wear be it opulent textures or impeccable
minimalist looks.

[5]

The Oscar winner, the promising newcomer and the socialite chose to
shine on the red carpet also with their sparkling gowns, in a very
classy manner though: slick hair, subtle makeup and delicate jewelry
completed the look.

[6]

Sandra Bullock in Marchesa, Carey Mulligan in Prada and Nicole Richie
in Reem Acra

Shiny looks in forms of metallic textures or sequin/crystal appliqué
are perfect choices for parties this season. From boyfriend glittery
blazers to loose tunics and disco-dancing-fit-for jumpsuits, this
trend continues to shine.

[7]

For a more elegant retro/feminine look lace is a better option.
Sandra's gown signed by Marchesa "hit" two of this seasons event wear
trends and I have to admit lace makes a graceful "team" with
silky/metallic textures.

[8]

I have only admiration for one of the greatest actresses of our time
that, way beyond the need of fashion experimenting, chose to wear a
(very flattering) plunging white gown signed by a new talent of the
fashion industry. Until now white was proper only for certain formal
events but we will see it and wear it more often (although so hard to
maintain).

Meryl Streep wearing a Chris March design

The tailored white dress (along with sharp white suits) takes LBD's
place for cocktail wear. The look is very refined with a monochromatic
tendency in accessories; so no red shoes, please. The silhouette is
the timeless hourglass figure or a slightly diaphanous cocoon shape in
dresses.

[9]

And as a wondering conclusion is it pure chance that these
distinguished appearances that fit with this year's color fashion
trends (classic white & black, metallic gold and silver and the
neutrals grey and blush tones along with cheerful floral prints) are
the only ones that manage to look good against that dreadful red
carpet?

Spring/Summer 2011 key fashion themes from Printsource&Promostyl

A new Post "Spring/Summer 2011 key fashion themes from Printsource&Promostyl" was written on the December 30, 2010 at 10:03 pm on "Textile Global - Textile and Fashion News".

Whimsical design by Kronkron

A new Post "Whimsical design by Kronkron" was written on the December 30, 2010 at 10:03 pm on "Textile Global - Textile and Fashion News".

High-Density Memory Targets RFID Applications

A new Post "High-Density Memory Targets RFID Applications" was written on the December 30, 2010 at 12:24 pm on "IC Marketplace".

An RFID device from STMicroelectronics, a leader in communication and
memory ICs [1], now allows technical equipment to 'talk back', with
detailed information such as a full maintenance history, to speed up
servicing and simplify record-keeping for OEMs and equipment
operators. The new chip, the LRiS64K, combines radio tagging (RFID)
circuitry with a large 64-Kbit non-volatile EEPROM capable of storing
extensive data, such as initial manufacturer details and complete
records of repairs or upgrades. It delivers a unique combination of
industry-standard wireless features, rich data storage, secure
retention, and long-term reliability.

Engineers servicing equipment such as medical devices, industrial
equipment, automotive controllers or avionics modules containing an
LRiS64K can access important unit-specific information held directly
on the device, by using a standard RFID reader. This on-board storage
can eliminate any need to retrieve paper records or access an online
database. The unit's service history can be updated in the LRiS64K
memory for access during subsequent inspection or servicing. This
feature can save downtime and help reduce MRO (Maintenance, Repair &
Operations) costs in sectors such as healthcare, aviation, logistics,
oil and chemicals, construction, and manufacturing.

The LRiS64K is a long-range 13.56MHz device, based on the
international ISO 15693 and ISO 18000-3 mode 1 standards for RFID
devices and capable of co-existing with other devices within range.
Its integrated tuning capacitor simplifies connection to an external
antenna. The memory can retain data for more than 40 years and
withstand more than one million write/erase cycles.

Main features of the LRiS64K:
64-bit Unique Identifier (UID)
64-Kbit User Memory
13.56MHz carrier frequency, ISO15693 standard Multi-password
protection 53-kbit/s wireless data rate 5.75ms typical memory
programming time

The LRiS64K is starting in mass production now in bumped and sawn
wafer suitable for Direct Chip Attachment (DCA).

Toyota: Nickel Batteries for Hybrids, Lithium for Electric Cars

A new Post "Toyota: Nickel Batteries for Hybrids, Lithium for Electric Cars" was written on the December 29, 2010 at 8:49 pm on "Press Release – Buzz Issue.".

Over the past decade, consumers have mostly overcome unfounded fears
about the safety and longevity of batteries in their hybrid cars. But
now the trusted battery technology, nickel metal hydride, is slowly
being replaced by lithium ion—raising questions about which
automaker will make the switch to lithium and when.

Toyota says that nickel metal hydride batteries perfectly suit the
needs of hybrids, like the 2010 Prius. It uses a relatively small 1.4
kWh pack.

Toyota, Honda and Ford—the leading makers of hybrid cars—have
relied on nickel metal hydride ever since they starting producing
gas-electric cars. Shinzo Kobuki, senior managing director of Toyota's
battery technology, earlier this month told Automotive News that the
company has no intention of switching to a lithium ion battery for its
hybrids—at least for the next 10 years. Kobuki said that converting
to lithium would mean "at best a 1 to 2 percent in the vehicle's
performance."

Toyota's decision to stay put with nickel probably has a lot to do
with its joint venture, now known as Primearth EV Energy Co., and
formerly known as Panasonic EV. In late 2009, that entity went from
big to really big when Panasonic acquired a majority control of Sanyo
for $4.6 billion—giving the pair a market share in nickel metal
hydride batteries of about 80 percent. That means sunk costs,
economies of scale, and a good deal on the current battery technology.

As we reported in September 2009, Toyota had come to the conclusion to
stick with nickel more than a year ago. The company said it conducted
three years of "secret tests" on 126 Toyota Priuses equipped with
lithium ion batteries. Toyota engineers like nickel metal hydride for
its proven safety, durability and safety. Executive like its cost
advantage—especially considering the volume of hybrids that Toyota
produces with nickel batteries.

Hyundai Sets $25,795 as Price for 2011 Sonata Hybrid

A new Post "Hyundai Sets $25,795 as Price for 2011 Sonata Hybrid" was written on the December 29, 2010 at 8:49 pm on "Press Release – Buzz Issue.".

Hyundai this week announced a price of $25,795 for the base-level 2011
Sonata Hybrid, with the premium package going for $30,795. That means
the Sonata Hybrid will beat the Ford Fusion Hybrid ($28,240) and the
Toyota Camry Hybrid ($26,575) on price. It already has an edge on
fuel efficiency, aerodynamics, light weight, and enjoyable driving.

Fuel economy for the Sonata and Fusion Hybrids are nearly identical,
but with highway and city numbers swapped. The Sonata Hybrid offers 36
in the city and 40 on the highway, while the Fusion Hybrid is rated at
41/36. The Toyota Camry Hybrid falls behind at 33/34.

Hyundai believes that its use of a six-speed automatic transmission
gives the Sonata Hybrid an edge on driving enjoyment. "There's
nothing specifically synergistic between a CVT (continuously variable
transmission) and a hybrid," said John Krafcik, president and CEO of
Hyundai USA, who rode with us during a recent drive of the Sonata
Hybrid. Krafcik's complaint about CVTs is the "non-linearity"
between pedal input from the driver, and the sound you hear. On the
other hand, with the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, Krafcik believes that
"you get back exactly what you expect based on what your foot is
doing."

Based on our driving experience, and now the announcement of a
compelling price, the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid raises the bar for hybrids
in a mid-size model aimed for the heart of the mainstream market.
It's the first hybrid for Hyundai (which on a winning streak) and
it's the first affordable hybrid model to use lithium ion batteries.
While not as exciting as the first mainstream electric cars being
delivered to consumers this week, it offers the promise of hybrid
technology being incorporated into the most popular models on the
road, and therefore having a major impact on reducing fuel
consumption.

The Sonata Hybrid hits dealerships in January. Unfortunately, that's
right after the expected $1,300 hybrid tax incentive will have already
expired.

Toyota Releases Puzzle Images of Larger Prius, We Have One

A new Post "Toyota Releases Puzzle Images of Larger Prius, We Have One" was written on the December 29, 2010 at 8:49 pm on "Press Release – Buzz Issue.".

Next month, Toyota will unveil a minivan-like larger Prius at the 2011
Detroit Auto Show. To create a groundswell of buzz around the
vehicle, the company started teasing images of the new model in
October, on the 10th anniversary of the Toyota Prius arriving to the
United States. Making sense of that image, and one that followed in
November, required Prius fans to assemble jigsaw puzzle pieces—first
on a giant billboard, then on the PriusChat.com website, and now
distributed to "the most influential people in the Prius
community." Guess what? HybridCars.com has one of the pieces.

On the 10th anniversary of the U.S. Prius, on Oct. 10, 2010, Prius
fans assembled a billboard-size puzzle. The image shows the larger
Prius behind the current model.

Toyota itself is going through a process of figuring out a puzzle: how
to keep the Prius relevant in a market which now includes vehicles
that, at least according to the E.P.A., provide more miles per unit of
energy—whether gasoline or electricity. The Prius, with its 50-mpg
rating, still stands leagues ahead of all other pure gas-powered cars.
But the all-electric Nissan LEAF, and the Chevy Volt (while it's
running on electricity) are rated above 90-mpg equivalent.

Toyota's answer is making the Prius available in different sizes,
from compact to minivan, in an effort to turn the quintessential
hybrid into a multi-vehicle minibrand. The first two images of the
Prius V give a glimpse of a model that will offer more space and
comfort than the current Prius, while providing fuel economy worthy of
the model's name.

The second puzzle shows the Prius V dashboard.

Russian Billionaire Unveils Country's First Hybrid Car

A new Post "Russian Billionaire Unveils Country's First Hybrid Car" was written on the December 29, 2010 at 8:49 pm on "Press Release – Buzz Issue.".

By Larry E. Hall

The two-door version of the Yo, Russia's first hybrid car, due in
2012.

Russia's second richest man, billionaire Mikhail D. Prokhorov, has
joined an exclusive club of wealthy movers and shakers who have
invested in the green car movement. Prokhorov, who is the major owner
of the New Jersey Nets basketball team, unveiled the first Russian
hybrid vehicle, the Yo, this week in Moscow.

Looking somewhat like large toy cars, the three prototypes shown—a
two-door car, a minivan and a small cargo van—are touted as being
the world's first natural gas hybrid electric vehicles. The Yo's
drivetrain is a series hybrid design that operates with two small
electric motors, a bank of capacitors and a small engine that can burn
either gasoline or natural gas. The engine operates almost
continuously, generating electricity that powers the motors directly
or charges the capacitors that discharge energy for start-and-stop
city driving.

Noteworthy, and perhaps suspect, the internal combustion engine is a
"rotary vane" type. Rather than move up and down as in a
conventional engine, the pistons move in a circular arc. The advantage
of this design is there are few moving parts resulting in a smooth
operation.

2012 Fiat 500

A new Post "2012 Fiat 500" was written on the December 29, 2010 at 8:49 pm on "Press Release – Buzz Issue.".

By Larry E. Hall

After a 27-year absence in the U.S., the red Fiat badge is returning,
attached to the front and rear of the 2012 Fiat 500 —
"Cinquecento" if you're Italian. The four-passenger, three-door
hatchback 500 is the first vehicle from the Fiat and Chrysler
partnership. Available in three models, Pop, Sport and Lounge, the
diminutive two-door hatchback goes on sale in January across the
country.

The 500 arrives on our shores with some steam behind it. The Italian
automaker has sold more than 500,000 500s in 80 countries since it
went on sale in July of 2007, the 50th anniversary of the car's
debut in 1957.

Power comes courtesy of Fiat's 1.4-liter in-line four-cylinder
engine that uses MultiAir technology. Developed and patented by Fiat,
MultiAir powerplants control the intake valves with a hydraulic fluid,
continuously varying valve lift and duration. The result is reduced
emissions while increasing power and improving fuel economy compared
to similar engines. Fuel economy is expected to be in the high 30s for
highway driving and low 30s in the city, according to a Chrysler
spokesman.

!! No Hybrid Or EV, For Now !!

That's not bad, but pales compared to rumors that the company is
working on a version of the Fiat 500 that combines a hybrid system, a
smaller TwinAir 900cc two-cylinder engine, Fiat's dual clutch
transmission—and maybe even plug-in capability—to give 100 miles a
gallon. In early December, Chrysler and Fiat executives dashed hopes
of anything remotely resembling that blend of gas and electric
technologies. Instead, Constantinos Vafidis, who oversees
transmission and hybrid development at Fiat's research center in
Turin, curiously told Automotive News that compressed natural gas is
better green strategy for the United States.

More on Rare Earth Metals: Are They the New Oil?

A new Post "More on Rare Earth Metals: Are They the New Oil?" was written on the December 29, 2010 at 8:49 pm on "Press Release – Buzz Issue.".

By Lisa Jerram, Pike Research

Following on my colleague Euan Sadden's blog post about China's
dominance of the rare earth metals market, the U.S. Department of
Energy (DOE) has just unveiled its new Strategy on Critical Materials.
Last week, I caught David Sandalow, DOE's Assistant Secretary for
Policy and International Affairs, presenting the key findings. He
spoke at a half-day seminar on rare earth elements held by the Center
for Strategic and International Studies.

DOE's Strategy on Critical Materials is the agency's attempt to
assess potential supply risks in key materials used in clean
technologies. For this report, DOE focused on just four clean tech
options: wind turbines, solar cells, electric vehicles, and energy
efficient lighting. Specifically, DOE looked at four components in
these technologies: magnets, batteries, PV thin films and phosphors,
and at 14 rare earth elements or other key materials such as lithium
used in them:

DOE developed four relatively simple demand scenarios for each
element: low or high market penetration of the technology; and low or
high material content levels. (The market penetration scenarios came
from International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates.) These are plotted
