Dogs Bark Imperial March From Star Wars in VW Super Bowl Teaser

• Volkswagen teased its 2012 Super Bowl commercial courtesy of a video that features a canine chorus barking the Imperial March from Star Wars.
• The teaser is named “The Bark Side.”
• The dogs are wearing Star Wars gear, with one schnauzer dressed up as an Ewok.

HERNDON, Virginia — Riding high on the success of its “The Force” commercial in last year’s Super Bowl, Volkswagen is once again mining the Star Wars theme. But this time, it features a chorus of canines barking the Imperial March.

The teaser is named “The Bark Side.” The dogs are wearing Star Wars gear, with one schnauzer dressed up as an Ewok. At the end of the 60-second teaser, a greyhound strolls across the screen dressed as an Imperial Walker vehicle.

Volkwagen was one of the winners during last year’s Super Bowl advertising effort. Its Darth Vader spot for the Volkswagen Passat has since racked up 49 million views on YouTube.

Volkswagen had nothing to say about the 2012 teaser except, “Keep an eye out for our 2012 Game Day commercial. It will all make sense.” As of Friday morning, the teaser had racked up 3 million YouTube views in about 24 hours.

Earlier, Volkswagen said it will showcase the 2012 Beetle in its 2012 Super Bowl commercial.

Inside Line says: Dogs and Star Wars look to be an unbeatable Super Bowl combination for VW.
