FREEPORT, Maine — The L.L. Bean Bootmobile, a whimsical truck designed to honor the retailer’s iconic Maine Hunting Shoe, embarked on a year-long road trip around the U.S. on Wednesday.

The Bootmobile celebrates L.L. Bean’s 100th anniversary and is already drawing comparisons to the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, the iconic vehicle that celebrates the hot dog.

If the Bootmobile were a real boot it would fit a 147-foot-tall person, says the retailer. L.L. Bean is also asking the public to guess “what shoe size would this Paul Bunyan-esque person wear?” The retailer says it will post the correct shoe size on its corporate blog next week.

The Bootmobile is build on a Ford truck frame and features shoelaces made out of mooring rope that can pull 120 tons. The vehicle is 20 feet long, with a door cut into the heel for the driver. Designers came up with the concept by experimenting with model trucks tucked inside of the Maine Hunting Shoe.

Inside Line says: Does the L.L. Bean Bootmobile give the Wienermobile a run for the money?
