FRANKLIN, Tennessee — Nissan hiked the price of the 2012 Cube on Wednesday and announced that it will offer the Cube in three models instead of four.
The 2012 Nissan Cube starts at $15,760, reflecting a $260 price increase. The price includes a $780 destination charge, which has been increased by $20 for the new model year.
The Nissan Cube 1.8 S Krom Edition has been dropped from the lineup for 2012. The Krom Edition was priced at $22,400. The top-of-the-line Cube is now the 2012 Cube 1.8 SL, which starts at $19,300, including shipping.
The mid-range 2012 Nissan Cube 1.8 S starts at $17,200 for the manual-transmission model.
The carryover Cube includes a new 1.8 S Indigo Limited Edition, which adds $1,900 to the bottom line of the 1.8 S. This version gets an Indigo seat color, a navigation system, rearview Monitor, Rockford Fosgate audio, Nissan Intelligent Key and 15-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.
Nissan Intelligent Key is now standard on SL models. Five new exterior colors will be offered for 2012. They include Pearl White, Brilliant Silver, Gun Metallic, Cayenne Red and Bali Blue.
The Cube gets a standard 122-hp 1.8-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine linked to either a continuously variable transmission or a six-speed manual transmission.
Inside Line says: Weak sales doesn’t appear to have deterred Nissan when it comes to pricing the Cube.
