Report: Audi Q1 could be in the works

Audi is hinting that it will produce a crossover based on the new A1 compact hatchback. Known so far as the Audi Q1 that model will expand the A1 range with a more premium compact SUV that will compete with the Mini Countryman and BMW X1.

"We are not looking at what other manufacturers are doing, but we are looking at different body types", an Audi inside told WhatCar. "You've seen how our SUVs have been getting smaller – Q7, Q5, Q3 – and the A1 platform could go in that direction, but nothing is planned for the near future."

The insider said that a A1 convertible version is unlikely since it would be to close to the Audi A3 Cabriolet.
