Sony Releases Gran Turismo 5 Update and Downloadable Content
- Polyphony Digital has released its third update for Gran Turismo 5.
- Two downloadable content packs are also available as of Thursday.
- The Speed Test Course Pack will cost users $3.99, while Car Pack 3 costs $5.99.
TORRANCE, California — Polyphony Digital and Sony Computer Entertainment have released a third update for Gran Turismo 5 and two new downloadable content (DLC) items.
This update follows two others that were released in October and December, respectively. The latest one, version 2.03, includes 12 new My Home theme colors and 12 wallpapers, adds tire wear speed prediction to B-Spec mode and better regenerative braking for electric cars. Electric cars now will also idle forward like automatics when the brake is released and the accelerator is not pressed.
New DLC available as of Thursday includes the Speed Test Course Pack and Car Pack 3.
Speed Test Course Pack costs $3.99 and permits users to hit the Special Stage Route X Oval track in Arcade, Practice and Online Mode. It’s designed for staging speed tests and measuring acceleration, top speed and maximum G-force.
Car Pack 3 adds six cars to Gran Turismo 5 and costs $5.99. The pack includes the 2011 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, 1988 Jaguar XJR-9 LM, 2010 Aston Martin V12 Vantage, 1966 Volkswagen 1200, 2011 Mini Cooper S Countryman and 2011 Nissan Leaf.
Check out renderings of the vehicles here.
A new edition of Gran Turismo 5, the XL Edition, hit shelves Wednesday and is available for $39.99.
Inside Line says: Although the DLC is mostly just a ploy to generate revenue, it might be worth it if you can virtually get behind the wheel of the Aventador or XJR-9 LM on the track.
