Profile Information: !!

Davina studied Fashion and Textiles and was awarded a BA Hons. Onwards
she went to London where she worked as a fashion designer - pattern
cutter for high street brands. After her work experience she decided
to go back to University with the help of a bursary she got her MA in
Design for Textile Futures at Central St Martin's School of Art and
Design, one of England's most renowned design schools.

In 2002 she was awarded the Clerkenwell Green Award to set up her own
design studio. Since setting up on her own she has created one off
womenswear for various clients and has been commissioned for various
projects. Her specialism became fashion & textile design incorporating
recycled & hand - made detailing. Later as the word spread clients
would bring everything from vintage fabric to old pieces of lace. They
would then be made into alternative wedding dresses or accessories for
special occasions. Before she knew it she was being sponsored to show
her work at Esthetica at London Fashion Week which was a new area set
up to showcase sustainable and ethical design.

More recently Davina's work has been noted to have more emphasis on
textiles, texture and print design.  Her work is often made to
measure, feminine sophisticated and glamorous.  Her designs are
comfortable, easy to wear and often adaptable to different body
shapes.

Davina's other projects have included designing and creating fashion
awards out of old glass bottles to textile prediction books for the UN
to promote African textiles.

2011 took Davina to Rome where she was invited to showcase her work at
'The Queen's Birthday Party - Green is the new black exhibition'
for the British Embassy in Rome at Villa Wolkonsky which then went on
to La Rinascente department store & Alta Roma Haute Couture Week.

Davina has also recently dressed Veronica Webb. The dress was worn at
the Red Carpet Event for the 50th anniversary of the Vanidades
magazine, attended by Corine Roitfeld of French Vogue, Andre Leon
Tally of American Vogue and Carolina Herrera.

Davina has recently set up her own online boutique selling her own
womenswear label. She collaborates with numerous boutiques,
organisations individual clients to create exciting fashion parties &
events whereby the customer can commission & have something specially
made to measure.

*What are the main duties of your role?*

Everything! From designing to selling.

*What are the best aspects about your current role?*

A day is never boring! I'm always busy which is the best aspect of
my role.

*Are there any areas that are particularly difficult or challenging?*

I would say juggling a wide variety of jobs can sometimes be very
challenging.

*When employing a graduate what are the attributes you look for? *

A graduate that uses their initiative, someone who is keen to learn &
find out new ways of doing things.

*Do you have any words of wisdom that you would like to pass on?*

Follow your own path & what is best for you.

*What is the best piece of advice you have been given?*

Fashion is no different to any other business in that it needs to make
money to be sustainable.

*What do you feel are the most important trends / changes happening in
the industry that you feel students should be aware of?*

People keep telling me that bespoke is the key trend at the moment? I
also saw young women walking about in Liverpool streets with massive
rollers in their hair, perhaps this could be the next big thing?
