File this one under things we don't necessarily believe, but if
it's true, Lady Gaga may alienate a lot of the designers who adore
her. According to the UK's Mirror [2] (which is a tabloid paper),
she supposedly buys designer knock-offs.

The paper reports that while speaking to a group of fans in the US she
said, "In Tokyo, they have all these stores that have fake Chanel
and Versace. And I'm an Italian from New York, so I still buy it.
This jacket is a fake." Here are our issues with this and some
arguments against this being true:

1) She's good pals with both Donatella Versace [3] (who famously
opened up the archives for Gaga) and Karl Lagerfeld, and wears their
clothes frequently. We're pretty sure she can get the real-deal
Chanel and Versace gratis.

2) What the hell does being Italian have to do with anything?

3) Being a New Yorker, she would of course realize that knock-offs are
easy to come by on Canal Street and also from any number of shady
vendors who hang out near Bloomingdale's. There's no reason to go
all the way to Tokyo.

4) Gaga has been very outspoken in her V columns [4] and elsewhere
about respecting designers and their process and craft; buying
knock-offs is the antithesis of that.
