If you drive a car, ride a bike or scooter, or get around town via
public transport, your footwear has somewhat practical, which these
towering sandals by Jeffrey Campbell decidedly are not - from left:

heel & 3'' platform) & the "Pauline" (7''/2.5'').

Although they aren't totally outrageous nor completely impractical
when compared with their ancient ancestors. The height of one's heels
was how they identified Roman prostitutes of yore, while high-ranking
Egyptians tottered about on equally lofty footwear. During the Middle
Ages, chopines were all the rage [2] - embellished slippers perched
atop a carved wooden platform which could range anywhere from 7 to 30
inches in height, requiring the wearer to use a cane or servant (or
both) in order to actually walk.
