Russian oil major Rosneft intends to spend € 3.5 to 5 billion for
setting up a big petrochemical complex, including setting up of
ethylene and propylene plants, near the Russian city of Nakhodka. The
state-owned firm informed that construction of the new complex would
commence during second part of the current year, while the complex
would formally commence its operations from 2017.
The new complex would house five major processing facilities, which
includes an ethylene plant with a capacity of 1.4 million tons, and a
propylene plant with a capacity of 600,000 tons per annum. This is
likely to be the most powerful oil-based cracking unit of the world.
At the conclusion of the first phase, the new facility would have a
capacity to produce 3.4 millions tons per annum of various polymers
(PP and PE), olefins, benzene and other petrochemical products.
The firm proposes to facilitate its production processes with most
modern technologies, which would help it reduce its water and energy
consumption and also its by-product production.
Besides the production facilities, the firm also intends to construct
a specialized marine terminal to facilitate exports of plantâ™s
output in future. Products of the new complex are likely to be majorly
shipped to the Far East and Southeast Asian countries, mainly China.
Rosneft [1] is expected to execute the project on its own, without
involving any overseas partners, as it initially proposed to do.
