VW launches imported diesel Tiguan into China, priced at 340,000rmb.

Diesel Tiguan 300x214 VW launches imported diesel Tiguan into China, priced at 340,000rmb. Diesel is a dirty word to Chinese car buyers, although European consumers love the black burning stuff and American's are starting to get a taste for derv, Chinese consumers are completely turned off diesel models. It's not hard to blame Chinese for their dislike of diesel, previous diesel models in China were black smoke belching commercial vehicles that made you cover your nose and mouth whenever they belched on by.

VW's marketing goal for the imported diesel drinking Tiguan is simple: Energy efficiency. With the 2.0 turbo diesel Tiguan sipping just 6L per 100km it saves 30% more fuel than its gasoline burning rival. The imported Tiguan's are slightly ahead of their locally made variants in terms of looks, but the two are expected to be the same by the end of 2012. As to pricing, the diesel Tiguan will start at 342,500RMB whilst the luxury version will be 385,900rmb, only two models will be available.
